Zan Image Printer is installed as a virtual printer driver and allows you to effortlessly convert any document to a PDF file for easy searching and archival. Zan Image Printer works on Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista/2008 (including x64, Terminal Server and Citrix Metaframe).

To print to a PDF file, simply select the Print command from your application, and then select Zan Image Printer instead of your regular paper printer as the PDF printer driver, specify the file name and Zan Image Printer will create PDF file containing the image of the printed document.

Support for multi-page, serialized, and appending mode is included. The "Append to existing file" option allows you to easily combine and merge multiple documents into a single PDF file. For example, you can create a single PDF file whose first page was printed from Microsoft Word, the second from Internet Explorer and the last from Microsoft Excel.

The options on the Image->PDF tab determine how PDF files are created. Zan Image Printer can create two types of PDF documents:

image-only, non-searchable

image + hidden text layer, searchable

Output Image File Format
Select the format of image that you want to create, available formats are: BMP, GIF, JPEG, JPEG 2000, PDF, PNG and TIFF.

Color
Select one of the file varieties: monochrome, 256 color, grayscale, and true color (24-bits).

Quality
This parameter allows you to specify the desired quality of the compression by varying a quality factor (QFactor) between 0 (worst quality) and 100 (best quality). A QFactor of around 75 produces good results for nearly all images.

File Mode
One multi-page
All pages of the current document will be saved to a single multi-page PDF file. If the file exists prior to printing, all previous data will be overwritten and lost.
Serialized(one page per file)
One page per file, each page of the current document will be saved to an individual PDF file.
Append to existing file
Concatenate and merge all pages of multiple documents into one single PDF file so you can print and save them together. If the file exists prior to printing, all previous images in the file will not be touched, and the new images will be appended to the existing file. We recommend that you define a fixed file name from the Save tab when using the append mode.

Create PDF in image + searchable text format
When this option is selected, Zan Image Printer will add an invisible layer of searchable text to the original image so the text can be indexed and searched.
When this option is turned off, Zan Image Printer will produce the PDF in image only format that doesn't contain any searchable text.

What is PDF Printer Driver?

PDF is a file format created by Adobe Systems to maintain the fidelity of a document to its original.

A PDF Printer Driver is a software whose user interface resembles that of a physical printer driver, but which is not connected with a real printer.

When a user requests that a document be printed by a PDF printer driver, then instead of having the document printed on paper, it will print to PDF. With PDF Printer Driver, it is easy to share and view the generated PDF documents without the need for the original software.
