What's New?

NEW!  Zan Image Printer 5.0.11 has been released!

Zan Image Printer allows you to convert any document to a PDF or a graphics format for archiving, faxing, and sharing.

With Zan Image Printer, you can effortlessly convert any document to a PDF file for easy searching and archiving, a TIFF file for easy faxing, or any other image format (BMP, GIF, JPEG, JPEG 2000, and PNG). After conversion to a standard image, the original application is no longer needed to view the printed output. Zan Image Printer works seamlessly with any application that allows files to be printed.

April 12, 2010 - Version 5.0.11
Now you can hide the standard UNIDRV "Paper/Quality" and "Orientation" tabs on the printer property sheet.

Renamed the three predefined printers to Zan Image Printer (BW), Zan Image Printer (Color), and Zan Image Printer (Fax).

March 22, 2010 - Version 5.0.10
Added a user interface to enable and disable debug logging.

Additional debug logging messages were added.

After it is installed, Zan Image Printer is automatically set to silent mode.

Changed the default maximum Email attachment size to 50MB.

The app.ini and setup.ini (installdir keyword) now support the [%programfilesx86] macro.

Now you can specify a regular expression to extract an Email address further down in your document rather than the first Email address. The converted document can then be automatically sent via Email to the extracted address.

Rather than saving the generated images to the same folder where the original file resides, you can now optionally precede the [%srcfolder]\ macro with a destination folder when printing using the command line utilities zvprtcfg.exe and zvprtcfg_win32.exe to batch print your files. The tree structure of the source folder and its sub-folders will be replicated in the destination folder without copying any source files. The generated images will be saved to the corresponding sub-folders of the destination folder.

Added a FAQ to explain how to define custom DPI resolutions.

New FAQ on how to create custom paper size.

New FAQ on how to print a continuous document with no page breaks by using a custom roll paper.

Added the "Remove whitespace" option, which allows you to remove all white space characters from the document name.

Enhanced the support for Bates numbering: Zan Image Printer now increments the bates number after each stamp is applied rather than after each page. This allows you to stamp the bates number on just the first page of a print job.

November 2, 2009 - Version 5.0.8
Added support for Outlook address book. Now you can select the To or Cc address from your address book rather than having to type it manually.

The command line utilities zvprtcfg.exe and zvprtcfg_win32.exe now support the "email.send" command, which allow you to send Emails from the command line.

Added two commands on the Settings->Application tab: removeext - which removes the file extension from a path and faxcoverpage - which adds a bmp file as fax cover page/sheet to a faxable TIFF file.

July 22, 2009 - Version 5.0.7
You can use Extended MAPI to send Emails, which does not trigger an Outlook security warning dialog.

April 8, 2009 - Version 5.0.6
Removed Zan Image Printer's "Paper Size" tab, since it duplicates the functionality of the Windows Printers folder.

Increased the maximum Email attachment size to 50MB.

Zan Image Printer's "Printer Redirection" tab now allows you to select and use printers after the 10th printer in the list.

January 26, 2009 - Version 5.0.5
Support any custom dpi (50-9600) and the following new preset dpis: 50 x 50, 60 x 60, 240 x 216, 800 x 600, 1200 x 600, 2400 x 600, 203 x 305, 600 x 540, 254 x 254, 250 x 250, 500 x 500.

Added special handling for the watermark opacity. If opacity is set to 0, the watermark appears behind the page content.

The command line utilities zvprtcfg.exe and zvprtcfg_win32.exe now support watched folder batch printing. This means that when you copy new files to a folder or its subfolders, Zan Image Printer will automatically convert them to image files for you.

Reworked the code samples on the Developer page.

Defined the policy in configure.ini file, which specifies where (CSIDL_COMMON_DOCUMENTS or CSIDL_COMMON_APPDATA ) to store the machine wide common application data that can be read and written by all users. October 9, 2004 - Version 4.0
Zan Image Printer 4.0 has been completely rewritten under the hood to be more powerful and robust. It supports running as an unprivileged normal user in security conscious network environments. You can set up multiple copies of Zan Image Printer that are each configured to print files to a different folder.

Since the core program now is spawned in current user's security context, 4.0 supports saving to mapped network drives or UNC paths natively without needing any workarounds. The previous versions of Zan Image Printer run using the system account.

Added the Save As dialog in addition to Zan Image Printer dialog before printing starts.

Added support to run one or more applications for all generated image files after printing is finished. This feature enables easier automatic batch image processing.

Allows you to identify and retain the original document name. The document name passed in by the printing application may contain unwanted strings (e.g., path or product name) in addition to the original document name.

Supports terminal services and fast user switching with the limitation that Zan Image Printer can only differentiate between different users.

Added a Cancel button on the status dialog.

Added an uninstaller.

Removed the filename mode, use macro commands to define file name instead. We believe this will allow more flexible ways to define how the filename is generated.

Removed the Current User ID option, since the core program now is spawned in current user's security context, each logged in user will automatically have his own Zan Image Printer settings.

Allows you to set the output folder and file name programmatically via the StartDoc Win32 API.

All Zan Image Printer specific settings are saved in text ini files. Using ini files makes it easy for users to modify the settings either manually or programmatically. INI files transport easily to other computers as well. It is also possible to configure Zan Image Printer so that all users share the same settings.

A big problem with the previous versions was the inability for each printer instance to have its own settings. Now each printer instance can has its own settings.

Added the command line utilities zvprtcfg and zvprtcfg_win32 to allow Zan Image Printer to be controlled from other applications without the need for complex custom development.

Added the single-strip TIFF option, since some applications cannot cope with TIFF files that have more than one strip.

Call Uses Win32 API to remove the invalid characters in the source document name instead of using our own algorithm and routine to remove the invalid characters.

Added automatic text extraction functionality. If the source document contains text information, Zan Image Printer can extract and save the text from the document to a separate text file.

Added support for trimming borders.

Added support for cropping and inverting of images.

New more robust memory allocation algorithm, if printing in black and white mode, Zan Image Printer can generate the image in seconds even for large paper sizes such as A0.
